Laundry is My Nemesis

I hate laundry.  I have always hated laundry.  I do think it is in my DNA.  My FF always says, "THANKS.  You are awesome."  And swears up and down that he will take over the laundry for me.  And. It. Never. Happens.  Sometimes I am stubborn and wait until I run out of undies.  Other times I just spend a day getting it all caught up.

That was how I spent yesterday.  We went to early mass, and WOW, were my people figidity.  They could not sit still to save their soul - LITERALLY!  ;)  I am grateful that Fr. Michael was saying mass.  He is straight and to the point, no nonsense, but he is an amazing preacher.  Talk about cutting out the fluff.

We got home and dove into laundry, after my FFW girl next door brought all of us doughnuts.  She is so sweet.

There was a slight pause in the cycle of wash, dry, fold, repeat.  That dramatic pause came with a desperate plea from the firehouse.  Our local cable company is not playing nicely with our NBC affiliate, and has not for sometime.  That meant no Sunday night football for the poor deprived firefighters.  So, I ran down with a converter box and  antenna, to save the day.  It takes a firewife to save the firefighters, every time.

The shirt drawers - long sleeve, short sleeve, sweaters and sweatshirts.
Anyway, upon my return to the house, the laundry resumed and by halftime of the late game, it was all done.  We added a third dresser to the girls' room - solely for shirts.
I am obnoxiously organized.  They each have their original dressers. Top drawer - socks and undies, next two drawers - PJs, and bottom two are for pants.  (You would think it would make it easier for my FF to put the clothes away, but he is always confused about what goes where.)  I also pulled out all the summer clothes from their dressers.  We will need them this week, but it will get chilly quickly and I thought I may as well yank them while I was uprooting everything anyway.  Football may the day go by faster, that helped.  I have several donate bags.  It was a indeed a cleansing day.

My FF is subbing this AM and needed a change of clothes.  So, I ran them off to him, where he swore he would take care of the laundry from here on out.  Uh-huh.  How about I just do a load a day and we'll stick with that.

But for now, there is satisfaction in knowing that I got it all done and I think I will stick with that today.

Hug your FFs.  Take a moment over the next several days to think about where we were 12 years ago.  A prayer to the 343, all who lost their lives and those who will never be the same again.

Peace.

I Did It!!

I really did!  I thought I did it this summer, but my sneaky husband tried to slip one under the radar and I actually didn't.

I got all of the laundry done.  All laundry, save what was at the firehouse and one my people's person was at least washed when I went to bed last night.  I have one load in a basket to be folded and one each in the washer and dryer.  The girls have two baskets of laundry I will guilt my FF into putting away tonight, but our clothes and the boys' clothes are all washed, dried, folded AND put away.  No small feat.

Small feat??  Still unsure of that?? Not in this house when there are 6 people - one in football, one who changes her clothes because the clock changed, one who is so covered in grime she must go through several outfits per day  and not when your FF unknowingly undermines your attempt all summer long to get all laundry done and keep up with it.  He "took over" laundry before we moved.  While he was "doing laundry"  much of it did not get done.  By the time we were settled and I was back to feeling like I had conquered laundry, it turns out some of that "DONE laundry" he "did" when  he "took over" laundry, simply got packed in a box. This was discovered right as I went back to school. That broke my spirit and we have been playing catch up ever since.   My basement was just one big mess o' laundry.  UGH!
Not my pile o' laundry, borrowed from another mommy/teacher blogger with some of the same issues as mine.
Not her laundry mountain either.
Last week, I made a resolve to just get it done.  And even with football banquets and varsity games, homework and playtime, Halloween parties and trick or treating, I GOT IT DONE!  Now, how long will it last??  Hopefully I can maintain and have a plan in place for when I am going to be gone.  That seems to be when we fall behind.

Now, for that sock basket I spoke of last spring...that is still waiting for him and I am not giving in on that one!

My Laundry Room

Laundry Room Design
Drool city...what I wouldn't give...
It has become a sticky subject in our house.  I am spending so much time trying to make our house look amazing. Sometimes I forget about the laundry room.  And when I walk down there, it kinda sucks the life out of me. I also spend so much time on Pinterest lately that I see these room that look like something out of Better Homes and Gardens. I am a bit jealous.  Mine looks like something out of American Horror Story.  Especially right now - with boxes and stuff EVERYWHERE.  My pantry cabinet has not made its way in from the garage yet, so the table that is there for folding clothes, is covered with cans and boxes.  I don't even think I am brave enough to take a picture of it.

Not mine, but not far off.
But, I spend so much of my day down there - laundry for 6 people is neer ending.  So, once again inspired by Pinterest, I put in a request with my toolman.  I want my laundry room finished.  Maybe not quite as perfect as the dream room I drool over when looking for ideas, but at least less basement-like.
This would be perfect.
Although, we are buying the stacking kit for my washer/dryer
to open up more space.

And he looked at me like I was crazy.  "It is JUST a laundry room."  So, I made him a deal.  Ahem..."Fine, then you can take over the laundry."  Now, he begins negotiating.  "I'll have to put in double doors to get to the back.  I need that flexibility."  Okay, I'm good with that.  I then offered to just put a curtain at the bottom of the stairs into the laundry room, again for flexibility.  So, come Christmas time, I can look for a laundry room.   I'll keep you updated!
