Mother's Day Blues

It was a beautiful day.  My husband cantered for mass and I so miss hearing him sing.  I could not have asked for a more perfect day for him to sing. The kids and I brought up the gifts for communion.  No Sunday School.  A lovely brunch at the kids' favorite breakfast spot.  We came back home and they got my patio set up - a new table cloth, the canopy for the gazebo, the lights we strung the night before.  My hunny did most of the laundry folding, but I pitched in so it would not eat him (there were a million BAZILLION LOADS). The boys put the laundry away for the muppets.  And generally we all just enjoyed the beautiful weather until the storms came through.  My hubby bought me an Eiffel Tower to replace the one that was stolen last year and has already concocted a plan to keep it in place. (That was after he bought me new cushions for the patio set yesterday, since I live out there all summer long.)  I was definitely the spoiled girl of the weekend.

And...he has a PO today while NOT subbing or picking up OT.

I almost called in.  Just so we could spend another day together.

Almost...

I feel like we have been ships passing in the night and yesterday reminded me of how much I actually love being with this guy.  I love watching the kids and laughing at their shenanigans.

I didn't want yesterday to end.

But, alas, it is gone.  A memory of the recent past. Far too soon it will join the collection of "remember when" stories.  And I am back at school.  Mother's Day is a nice reminder that we are loved, even though we still have much work to do with those who love us.  Today, is a reminder that I have more kids to be a mom to, beyond those that share my DNA.  And so, here I am.  We are in the home stretch and I am going to take them through, kicking and screaming, to the summer.

Happy Monday! Happy Belated Mother's Day, Mommas!

My FF came off shift with the most beautiful flowers.
Last weekend was Mother's Day.  We had a crazy few weeks.  But this was an amazing day.  My FF is not a card type of person.  Which works well, because I don't really need cards.  I much prefer the non-specific kind of affection as opposed to one dictated by my mother's labor or Hallmark.  You know, when the laundry gets done for me or he takes the kids away so I can grade papers or he brings home flowers because it is Tuesday.  That shows his love.  I am such an un girl.

But this Mother's Day was absolutely perfect.  We did not go to mass, that is a discussion for another time, but very much a thought out decision.  We did spend the whole day finishing up my front yard's landscaping. A few yards of dirt, weed-blocker, some Quik-crete, some solar lights and some river rock and you have one happy mom on your hands.  What else do you need?? It took all day, but I am thrilled with the results.  All of the muppets, as well as one from the other side of the compound pitched in. He is indeed a blessing to have around.  Now, I just have to wait for a sign that we are done with the frosts, and then I can get my flowers going!

Love those FF and muppets, they do indeed make the world a more beautiful place.

Slacker

So I was a slacker yesterday, I didn't get a post up.  Saturday night was the Senior banquet, which was a lot of fun.  However, it did not leave me a ton of time between getting everyone home and settled, getting ready and heading to the country club, in order to prepare a post.  And yesterday, I slept until 8am which NEVER happens and left for my in-laws for Grandma's Mother's Day/Birthday celebration by 9am.  We got home after 9pm and I was wiped out.  SO, I just never got to it.

Today, is Mother's Day.  My FF is working, of course.  :)  Yesterday he bought me my paint for the new house, I am heading over today to get a few rooms painted.  My dad is taking the muppets in exchange for donuts.  We bought the bold red paint for my living room.  I'll post some pictures tonight to make up for the one I missed yesterday - dang slacker.

So, to all the mommies in the world, Happy Mother's Day.  Enjoy the one day when the world is okay with mom's being the slackers in house.  Rest and let the crew pamper you.  As for me, I will be painting.  And that is an okay way for me to spend my Mother's Day.
